Sculpted river rock

I was up in Cherokee doing some fishin' and gamblin' and found some nice river rock.  This was an attempt at sculpting.  I made the base in Japanese fashion of suiseki style.

Very nice! Well Done!

What is that rock? Schist? I'm wondering how hard it is?
Talc? Top is oiled and bottom natural?

It is a piece of granite or diorite I think.  Found a bunch in that stream that goes thru Cherokee Reservation.  It is a hard rock whatever it is.  I polished the top using various grits and cut into the lower portion with diamond burrs on my foredom unit.
