Rucks Pit

Here are some pics of the dogtooth calcite clams that I found at Rucks Pit in Okeechobee, Fl about 10 years ago.  I heard that they don't allow people in the quarry anymnore, but they bring material to an offsite location known as Fort Drum Crystal Mine.

Wow those are some killer clams there JimMc!  I've always wanted to try finding some of those myself. Well done on those finds!   Cheesy

Yes, those are some interesting formations in those clams.
Thanks for the pics. It's nice to have some pics of the quarry site as well.

And you have a very good looking dog! Looks just like my last dog Alpha. Wink

This is close to where we bought our retirement home.  Was thinking about taking a grandson there, but decided against after looking at their web site.  The fee is rather high.  So once I move to Florida full time, it will be a challenge to find other collecting opportunities!

I hear ya... when I lived down there, I used to canoe down the Peace river and screen for shark's teeth.  Also used to roam around shores of Caladesi Island and Tampa Bay near MacDill AFB and find agatized coral fingers.  They are very ugly on the outside, but when you saw them open they are absolutely beautiful.  Also Withlacoochee river for agatized coral heads.
