Mineral locality dicovered by myself

Six months ago I discovered a small calcite locality. The vug is approximately a meter long.  There was a small calicte pocket from which I excavated about 23 crystals. There was also a huge calcite druse which is now in my collection Cool. I'm looking forward to digging there soon.  This discovery is interesting because it is not common for that area. The region is Sliven, Stara planina mointain.

It's always a super good treat to find your own locality.  Well done on your rockhounding skills and great calcite finds!  Cheesy

Thank you Scott. In my region there aren't famous localities and I have to discover them but this makes the rockhounding even more exciting. I continue with another calcite finds. In this locality the calcite didn't form crystals. The specimens are part from veins in limestone. There aren't good crystal but the colour is fantastic. Unfortunately I don't have in situ pictures.

Very nice finds indeed! Well done and thank you for the pictures.
I like the way you have mounted the individual crystals and the big druse piece is very interesting.
As you say, the color of the second pocket is very strong. kind of a citrine smokey!
Congratulations on your finds and thanks for sharing with us! Smiley

Do you find much Fluorite in your area?

Thank you JoeM. In my area there isn't fluorite. The brown calcite is from different locality. There I have found manganese dendrites and goethite. I like this way of mounting monocrystal specimens. I've made the plexiglass base myself. Nowadays there is a new way of mounting crystal with hot glue but for me this isn't aesthetic.

Excellent.  My philosophy is explore your own "back yard" before moving further afield.  New localities are waiting to be found just about everywhere.  The closer to home you can prospect, the less time you waste driving.
