Local rocks cut and polished

I was curious if some of the rcoks that I collected around the area (Falls Lake and Haw river) would look any good after being cut and polished.  Although they are very fractured due to being exposed on the surface, I think they came out decent.  The smaller greenstone was from Haw River in Graham.
I like to leave a bit of rough exposed on one or two sides.

Good job, Jim!
I have been experimenting with local rocks for a while now, too.
I don't mind the fractures and veils running through most of our quartz rocks. Infact most times I think it adds to the piece. But trying to find the perfectly clean pieces can be a chore.
I like the green Haw River rock. It looks a lot like my Chatham County Lime which is also found not too far from the Haw only further south.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! Smiley

Thanks Joe... I don't do much cutting/polishing in the winter since my equipment is in a garage, but with this warm/hot weather, I try to do a little something every week.  I am cutting up some Alabama paint rock agate that is just awesome once you get past all of the fractures.  I will post some pics of that material soon.

So is the green rock some kind of fault breccia?

Exactly what I would say, Tim. "Some sort of fault breccia"
