My jaw dropped and my heart started pounding! This crystal was lying on the surface, just as bold as brass (tho quite dusty and dirty)... I don't think the pictures capture how clear it is--there are really neat, perfectly square inclusions inside it (tho not sure what the material is). There is one, maybe two, phantoms that I can tell. There is also some citrine-y bits clinging around it.

I tried to take enough photos to give a sense of what's going on inside, but I'm not sure how well anyone can read that. One photo is back-lit with an LED, but I don't think the camera liked shooting that one!

I found it in Chapel Hill, NC near the New Hope Creek/Camp, right off Hwy 86. Lots of milky white quartz in situ, all over the ground, lying on top and embedded. Has anyone every been hunting around that area? I thought I was walking on top of Mt. Quartz!

Very nice find indeed, Rocky! Sounds like it kind 'a jumped out at ya'. Wink
Looks like a strong crystal, no doubt from a pocket in the massive quartz you're seeing there.
No, I've never really looked at that area there inbetween 40 & 85. Think about it as I'm driving by, but it looks like it needs to be checked!
Any large out crop of quartz around here needs to be checked and, in this area, you're more than likely to find some sort of crystallization going on some where.
As for the "citrine-y bits" "most" of what we see like that turns out to be little flecks of mica, but there are a LOT of possibilities.

Cool stuff to be sure. Thanks for the pics
and Keep on Huntin'!

Very cool find Rocky! I've never heard of an actual location of quartz crystals in Chapel Hill, only hearsay, but now you've found a pretty rare occurrence. Well done!  Cheesy
