Last I heard, there's no more digging back in the woods because that house had been sold and new owners don't want people back there (behind shed).  But Ron, who lives next door, had plowed up some of his back yard and you can now pay him to dig in the plowed area and find the same material.  I think used to be a facebook page about Propst farm, but I don't do facebook, so don't know if that's still current.  If you can find his number somewhere, it's probably worth calling to verify that you can still go.

Yes, thanks lizzie. The status has changed a lot lately and I haven't kept up, so can't be of any help here.
I'm sure some one can bring us up to date.

I would really like to know the current status. Too bad about the back area. The area plowed...is this the same area plowed near the house a couple of years ago?
Guess I will have to buy that sweet one Scott has for sale.
The guy across the street came over to chat the last time Becky and I were there and indicated he had the same stuff on his property. I wish he would consider letting people look.
However, Becky bashed his team (football maybe)...so he might not let me or Becky over there.  Roll Eyes you just have to know how she is... to know her is to love her.

The last time I was out there was probably about 2 years ago? maybe a little less?  I can't remember exactly.  Anyway, Ron came out and chatted for quite a while.  He had plowed up part of his backyard, but said he would re-seed it in the spring and then maybe plow up a different chunk.  I'm not sure what he actually did because I haven;t been back since that conversation, but it seems that there was some conversation, somewhere, about him still allowing people on his property, just not on the neighboring property, because new folks bought the other house.

That's interesting the guy across the street came over to chat, it would be very interesting to know how far and wide the corundum can be found.

After my post yesterday, I found this website http://propstfarm.com/

Thanks Lizzie.
I can't read nuances of artifacts or letters like b and p!  Huh I guess I really do need to wear my glasses.
So it is the Propst not Probst! I tried to find that site you posted but only found a farm in Oh. Will keep looking for info.
It is too far for me to just drive by and see.
The neighbor was a nice guy and he did say they had found stuff around their yard.
I thought it was decided the rise/top of the hill (beginning of their driveway and property) was the margin and it flowed down from there toward the back of the barn and down - as from an ancient alluvial deposit. Of course, you can't know till you look. I did look pretty far down to the old creek down there and didn't find anything past the woods where everyone was digging, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. It just seemed to be deposited higher up to me.
It has been a very long winter after a very long year and I am severely in need to get out!
***just found that site...it is open! woohooo! thanks again, Lizzie!

I'm a regular visitor to Propst.  The plowed area is only a few inches deep and is basically to show where digging is allowed.  You still have to dig down, but not as far as you had to in the back. Some nice pieces still coming out.  Including this one with kyanite inclusions.

Whoa! Hold on! That is beautiful! What a combo! I haven't seen kyanite from there and definitely not with the corundum.
Ok maybe I will go there first this year instead of the kyanite place in VA.
Thanks for showing  Smiley

Does anyone know the history of the Propst? When they discovered corundum there? How long ago?

I am not trying to be a pain but could that be corundum in a different color rather than kyanite? Corunduminium site shows several with varying colors in the same crystal.

I went out to Propst yesterday - had a great day.  Here's a handful of my finds.

Someone out there commented about the ratio of quartz to corundum.  I actually brought home ever rock I dug up, and because I apparently didn't have anything better to do this morning, I counted them all.   Shocked

In case anyone's interested, my ratio of corundum:quartz from yesterday's dig was 1:30
