Hello All,
I used to collect rocks and minerals when I was younger, but became distracted by other things as I grew older.
My youngest daughter (9) became interested in rocks and minerals last year due to her science teacher at school's lessons, and now she has been going exploring around our cabin and coming up with some interesting specimens.
To encourage her interests, we have started to study rocks and minerals together, gone on some digs and will soon be doing some rockhounding elsewhere in the Sierras, so she has been very excited.
We tried to join a local mineral and lapidary society, but they meet late nights during the school week and it is just too late for her (and, unless she attends so many meetings, she does not get access to their workshops, etc., so that's a bust).
For now, I am just trying to learn some of the basics (cleaning, identification databases, etc.) to stop floundering around.
Looking forward to making some posts and learning what we are finding, etc., so thank you for any advice and guidance you can give me as I struggle to keep up with her!
