Welcome Rock!
Those are some cool rocks! Thanks for the pictures. I'm wondering what state you are finding them in?
I'd probably collect as much of it as I could find. Not sure what I'd do with it tho until trying to cut some of it to see.
It's some pretty chalcedony. As you probably know that thin little seam of root beer color is where the fire in Fire Agate usually is. And since it is so thin I don't know if you will find any fire. Not all Fire Agate has fire.
There does not look to be a lot of good cutting material, but it looks interesting enough to try. And that's why you ought to go ahead and collect some. It's a definite maybe. Wink
Give a few pieces to a local lapidary and see what they say or can do with it.

Thanks, I need to get back to that spot to look for better specimens for sure! I found those near Wickenburg Az, I was thinking of getting a dremel and taking a peak for fire, I watched a video on windowing but watching a video and doing are two different things lol, so I'm hesitant...

Very neat stuff. Definitely look for and collect more of that stuff. I have a feeling some of that material is going to look really good cut, especially the piece in the last picture. Nice finds!

Thanks, I'm hesitant to try and cut it myself but if you or anyone knows someone who cuts fire I might be willing to send them that last stone you like for free if they will cut it, they can keep it, I just want to know if it produces decent gem quality fire. Reason being, I found an area with lots of this stuff and kind of want to know if it's worth gathering up a bunch of this stuff or will I just have piles of worthless rock lol...

Joe is a master cutter and has a great eye.
Wait! There are worthless piles of rock? Piles of rock are worthless?
That stuff would be soooo pretty mixed in with flowers in the yard.

Lol...your funny Rebecca, another reason is its a mile walk up and down steep (breakneck)hills to get to that spot, no roads, its kind of hard to carry buckets of that stuff especially for yard rock Tongue lol...

All right, Rock, I'll bite. If you can't find anyone local to "experiment" with the stuff send it on. I'll send you a PM with my info.
Unless the root beer vein gets wider I doubt we will find any fire. But we'll see what it looks like.
Sorry to hear you can't just pull the car over, grab your shovel, and start filling up buckets.  Wink I think this material is marketable but natural, like it is for the pretty curly chalcedony formations, and sold by the pound. It is real interesting pretty material. I don't know how many times you've been to the source but you are going to want to check it a few times. You never see all there is to see in just one, or two trips.
