The itsy bitsy spider..

Literally! This lil guy is only 1.5 mm from the highest tip to lowest bend. Burmite amber, 99 MYO @ 90 x magnification. Not looking too shabby for being close to 100 million years old.  Grin At least I think it's a spider. Only 6 very long legs.

It looks like a long legged spider ant similar to those found in Australia today.  Good spotting.

Good spotting is right! And great picture. Nice little guy/gal. Thanks for the picture. Smiley

I am very interested in how you think the Burmese amber works and polishes? Compared to the Indonesian? If there is a comparison?

Aside from the fact's that it's a tad more expensive and a few years older, it's also a bit harder & much clearer. It polishes up very nicely with a little more effort than the Indonesian takes. Unfortunately, I don't have any rough to compare with. This is all miner polished (about 1/2 polished after being ground down). I like it. With it being as clear as it is, it makes finding inclusions much easier.

Turns out, it isn't a spider OR an ant. What it is, is this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aethiocarenus

A rare lil bug.  Cheesy
Combined with somewhere around a dozen or more enhydros in the same piece, means it's worth a few pennies.

Wow, good catch, dave! This little guy/girl is a real loner. Only species of the genus! Sounds very ALIENopterus to me.

Oh yeah, Joe. Another thing about the burmite is it doesn't have the pine smell of the Indonesian or Baltic (from what I hear). Because of the tree it came from, it smells more like kerosene.  Undecided

After carefully working on this piece of amber, I finally got a better pic of the "aliens" head. The piece was just over 1 cm thick and of course the bug was almost dead center. So with hand held diamond files having only 3 speeds (slow, med & oh great, another notch in my fingernail), it was slow going. Lots of starts and stops. But I finally got a view that was worth it.
