It has brought me much enjoyment posting my self-collected Maryland beryl specimens lately so I thought I would post some of my self-collected Connecticut crystals and specimens, too. Much like North Carolina, Maryland, and Maine Connecticut has a pegmatite district around the Portland and Glastonbury areas. I have collected in Connecticut very extensively over the last 15 or so years and have found some fantastic specimens of beryl, hyalite opal, columbite, and even a few specimens of gahnite.

I thought I'd start by posting this football-sized matrix specimen with several well-formed, terminated crystals in smoky quartz and cleavelandite.

Let me know what you think.

Yay, Good for you, Hydro! First Connecticut Specimen! Smiley
And a fine, very healthy looking specimen it is too! I'd call it a keeper. I like the cleavelandite as well as the beryls.

Would love to see more of your Connecticut specimens. Columbite inparticular. And I noticed there's no mention of Iolite on your list?

Thanks for the picture. Smiley

Really nice piece. Thanks for posting. I grew up in New England but did not get into rockhounding until well after I moved to Virginia, and am always interested to see the kinds of things I missed out on.

Awesome piece Hydro.  I'd be proud to have that in my collection especially being self-collected.  Thanks for sharing.
