This isn't really a 'complete' field trip report but it was a fieldtrip that's been on the bucket list forever.
Scott was invited to collect at a new not yet open to the public  Herkimer Diamond site just east of Herkimer, NY, along the Mohawk River valley in Fonda, NY, and invited me along for comic relief. We've always wanted to see what Herkimer Diamond collecting was all about and this seemed like a good opportunity.
It's a long drive but I-81 is a pretty scenic route, as far as interstates go, and we made it up with over an hour of sunlight left. I had forgotten what a historic and beautiful rural area central NY is.
'We're home, ma.'

We'll have to get a 'New York' section, and a 'Michigan' for that matter, put in the 'States' section to add more pictures to but here are a couple cleaned up.
The wispy Smoky quartz from this site is really beautiful and different with radiant rainbows popping out at you. Great skeletal windows too.
And there are going to be some VERY large crystals found from here. The last picture is one that fell out of the excavators bucket and into my lap.  7 lbs. 4 oz.
