It has black lines running through it and in the little black lines there is crystal material in it.
I have no idea what this rock is.

I agree with dave 100%,
but that piece of Chert might have enough color in it to be called Jasper! Cheesy

Thanks. Nothing like really confusing me.
Chert? Jasper?

I think I was better off when I knew even less. Grin

Good site, dave, I'm not familiar with 'YesDirt' but looks great and they cover a lot of topics. Will be checking it out more.
At one time I was thinking about starting a site called 'JoeDirt' but the name was already taken. Good movie. I cried, but it has a happy ending.  Smiley

Yes, ID, EVERYONE has a hard time trying to figure out the right name at first! Everyone, always.
When is it a Chert, Jasper, or an Agate? It never ends. And just when you think you have figured out where the line of demarcation is, you'll discover an 'exception'.
Heck, they don't even look like different forms of quartz!
Yes, that's what they are, but to illustrate the confusion in terminology, I would call them different forms of "Cryptocrystalline" quartz, whereas the YesDirt site above chooses to use the word "Microcrystalline". Two words that mean the same thing.

Below is a link to "The Quartz Page" Home page. If you move your curser over the words "Macrocrystalline" and "Cryptocrystalline" in the side menu you will see a list of the different types of each. And then, of course, you are free to read as much as you want about each.
And you thought RockHounding was just going for a walk!  Grin

I bookmarked them so I can really really mess with my eyes and head. Smiley
