This is where I find the 'Savannah River Agate', but it's really chert. It gets turned up when the dirt road gets graded, and it is everywhere. Open the car door, look down, there is chert. It's covered in dirt/mud and not until I get it home and hose it off do I know what I found.

Awesome! Thanks for the pictures!
I was searching the Georgia Mineral Society's web site because they used to have an article that listed and showed examples of some of the accessory minerals found in that chert/agate, but I couldn't find it. That is a a very well done big site with lots of information.  I saw several articles I'd like to read.
https://www.gamineral.org/

That chert has been quarried by man for atleast the last 10,000 years, and  archaeologist Al Goodyear is trying to push that date back another 30-40,000 years. A fantastic fascinating area to explore.
Didn't take long for the woods to grow back, and it looks thick!
I'm glad you can still collect from the road, but the chert is all under the woods too. And there are archaeologically based maps plotting all the outcrops on both sides of the river.
If you heat the rock the tan/browns turn to purple/red, like a jasper, and the aboriginals would heat it a lot.
Enjoy your exploring! Keep us posted!
