I'm slowly going through the chert I've collected and found this- this is a first and I'm very curious as to how this coalesced to have that very cool stripe.

Now that right there is a hot-damn "band" or "seam" or "layer" of AGATE if'n I ever seen one! Cheesy A separate formation in the chert! That's a dang agate. Told you there was more agate in Georgia. More chert in SC.  Grin
Great pictures, Thank you. That is a very well defined specimen of agate in the chert. Just one of the thousands of reasons to take a closer look at this rock! I would guess that seam is sedimentary and not a fossil, but there are lots of fossils in that chert.
Some outcrops are known to be more fossiliferous than others.

Here's a link to an archaeology article with lots of good information about the different cherts from different spots in Georgia. You can skim over the archaeological stuff, but a good reference to look at when you have time.

Great pictures! Using the Occam's razor the easiest explanation might suggest an infilled crack with the sedimentary agate. But a limb or worm cast would cool. Remind me what nm your UV lamp is?
