Multi colored rocks

Hey yall, I found some of these rocks on the edge of a fallen oak rootball hole, near a pile of white quartz rocks on my property. I started caving off the bank and found, (still finding), more rocks. What was odd to me is there was a specimen of just about every type of rock on my property but, bigger. I would appreciate if anyone help identify some of them. I'm going to try pics of both sides. It's been cloudy so I hope there is enough detail.

So now let me get this straight, you've been digging in a pile of quartz on your property and you're finding more quartz rocks. Lots of them! But you didn't really have to do any digging at all because you already knew it was there because that's the reason you were digging there in the first place?

If you are enjoying yourself, by all means have a good time. That's how you learn. But I would call that Bull Quartz and move to another spot. All those colors are normal and totally natural from all the minerals like Hematite and Iron Oxides and clay decomposing and staining the quartz. It's a great sign that you have that outcropping on your property because there could be something good close by.

Speaking of which, you just a couple of miles east of  the most productive Amethyst Zone in the Southeast. You've got the Diamond Hill Amethyst Mine at Antreville, SC, and one of the top quality Amethyst mines in the world at Tignall, GA, Jackson's Crossroads. Draw a line from Diamond Hill to JXR, and you have the center of the zone. 5 miles either side would be worth looking at.

Have you ever seen any quartz crystals on your property?

Hi JoeM thank you for the reply and the Bull quartz info.
I figured it was some kind of quartz but maybe bordering on colored jasper. I found this bull quartz, (thank you again), while tapping the ground, (I use a old maul handle to tap the ground and then probe where I hear a hollow sound) it so close to the rootball hole that I started caving off the sides because it was easy. I had not found colored rock bigger than pebbles or cobbles in this area, with one exception in new post. I find the colorful stuff in my front yard, (see pic #).The pics below may provide some context. I uncovered another pile of quartz last week, about 40ft down the hill from the exposed pile, that looks like it may have colored quartz so I may be on a roll, lol
Pic 1, looking down into hole where I caved the sides.
#2, rock pile I uncovered
#3, only visable rock pile on property white quartz
#4, exposed white quartz pile upper left, rocks I uncovered in hole bottom center, rootball hole dig upper right
#5, 6, 7 found in front yard. One of many piles
Finally #8, only piece of crystal ive ever found. I've found a few rock crystal artifacts.

Good looking hunting companions you have there!
And, yes, you have a lot of quartz. That's a good thing.
But I was very glad, relieved, to see the last picture of the one quartz crystal you have found. That looks like a nice one, and in my humble opinion, that's what you should spend more time looking for. You will find the different colored rocks where ever you find quartz, but the Quartz Crystals are the Prize!

Thank you JoeM!!  Since I retired, the youngins are with me all the time. They love being in the woods as much as I do. I found the piece of crystal in a white Quartz debris field, littered with flakes, scrapers, projectile point pieces and hammer stone. It has flakes that look like gold foil inside it. In your opinion, where should I be looking to find whole rock crystal?
Edited to add: I just noticed In the bottom photo there is a crystal in the crystal.

Those Native Americans would find the very best rock no matter where they were! Whatever kind of rock there was in an area, they would find the best.
I was going to say this earlier, but I think you are letting all the colors preoccupy your thoughts and eyes, and the pristine, solid, milky white veins are the ones you should be looking closer at.
It sounds like your crystal site might be an aboriginal quarry site. It's hard to be on a known artifact site and not look for them, but you definitely want to go back to that site with your eyes trained on crystals and see what you see. Cool
The easiest thing would be to train those youngins' of yours to sniff them out!
Have fun down there in the land of retirement! Grin

Yes, definitely go back to where you found that crystal and look for more.  I believe there's a vein or fissure around where you found that one that will have more crystals.  If the land hasn't been disturbed for some time you may need to dig around in the dirt where you found that one.

I cant wait to get back into that debris field when it gets cooler. Im going to use the auger and see what we find. I uncovered it when raking up debris with the tractor after my pines were thinned.

The auger will come in handy when you find something.
If it were me I think I would use the tractor and try clearing some of the area off down to the top of the clay. I would imagine there would be a few artifacts and other interesting things in the humus layer you would be removing, so you want to check it good.
Then, ideally, let that cleared surface get rained on a time or two and you can read that surface more like a map. No telling what kindof outcrop of quartz you got there but the crystallizing vein will be running in a certain direction. Let's just say it's running north and south, but you still don't know where it is. So you would want to dig or scratch a trench running east and west and hope you cross it. There should be a lot of what you're looking for in the first 2-3 feet.
Too hot this weekend! Cool

Thank you JoeM, I will use the scrape blade to pull off the topsoil and then let it rain. I will shift the topsoil for artifacts. I got my hope up now, lol. The site is thick on each side with underbrush and we run across more than the occasional Copperhead or other vipers. I took a video of a Plain Belly water snake eating a frog yesterday.
