First Points of the Year

First points of the year. Knapped from some NC (Burgin Mine) milky white quartz I picked up a few years ago.
It is hard to find a piece that doesn't have those dreaded cracks. I had a third attempt break in half right on a
crack line while I was thinning it down. I knew it would happen and sure enough it broke. Point style - in the
Southeastern US we call these Yadkins.

Way to go, RickB, Nice job! It's very nice to see someone knapping some of the local quartz. Not many people will mess with it. I may even know where the Burgin Mine is. Wink

Very nice!  Were these crafted from crystallized quartz from the Burgin Mine or from just bull quartz?

Slow to respond Scott. I walked around the mine the last time I was there with you
guys and had a hard time finding solid pieces without crystal faces in it.  I would call
it bull quartz. Kept about a five gallon bucket of it and have made a few points from it.
My knapping skills have improved enough now where I'm able to produce a thinner point.
