Where are you headed?

So where are you headed this year? Rock hunting at the Tucson rock & gem show is the best place to discover & build your collection. Over the years folks I meet there are the friendliest ever. Finding anything & everything. For sure family fun.

Me personally just retired a few years ago & surrounding myself with folks of the same (all my life) not collecting everything you can find vs filling every nook & cranny taking home & relocating the actual deposit is certainly an option, however coming back to one of your favorite places with friends can be a time & place to remember. Bringing back material that can be cut & polished, or simply displayed can reveal more than simply an artifact, but a monument to the whole experience. Youtube can be an important tool. Make a video of your own experience & post it here.

South Texas agates are really some sweet stuff. I've only been there once, but have heard of the "Red Plume". Woodward Ranch & the like. Needle Peak & Terlingua. Laremore, and Alpine. All nice areas & nice folks. I highly recommend the areas along the border. It's much more safe these last few days!!!

Also last year, I headed out to Durango, CO to the 4 Corners rock club's show. Saw some old contacts, really had a great time there. Especially headed up to the top 13,000+ feet to some of the gold & silver mines. Took back a few pieces, found galena & a small hint of gold at a mine with no name outside of the town of Ouray on a road that is no doubt 4wd only to say the least. It hailed in July up there which is typical. Bear falls is not for the timid. Everything is straight up or straight down, aaarrrggg!

A couple of vids from Needle Peak last fall.

Given my circumstances I'll keep digging in Girard, GA. I've found some really nice stuff and cool fossils there.  I'll probably meet up with a high school buddy who's also a rockhound at Graves Mtn. He'll be with some old timers who have been going there for years so maybe I'll bring back more than the dregs others left behind. I just have a hard time getting oriented there given how crowded it is.

I might make a day of Diamond Hill in SC just for a change of scenery and material. I'd love to visit my brother in Alamogordo NM and do some hounding out there! Not likely, but as Spock said, "All things are possible".

I'd love to hit some places farther afield in SC and NC but the distances are more than a day trip. Not likely, but who knows, maybe.

No plans for me. Just going to continue to see what development turns up around here. Wherever you go, Safe Travels and Good Luck!

Just wanted to thank you for the video links, Maico. That's a real pretty quartz cluster at the entrance to that pocket. I was hoping to see what was inside.  Smiley
