Joe found this development when it first began, however, only artifacts were the potential until we discovered crystals there a few months back.  We didn't expect crystals to be there considering it was the farthest north we have seen crystals with respect to the "zone" or trend of crystals throughout Wake County.  Here is a short video of me working a pocket of crystals I found there.  I brought home what I thought was the heart of the pocket I was working and screened it.  Its hard to believe all those crystals were packed into that pocket material.

These have all been soaked in acid to remove the rust stains so I will post a new picture of them cleaned off soon.

great scotts!  Smiley that is a haul. and interesting, given the geology of the area. do you mean you found it in one of those so called "dead zones" of black dirt that is only good for finding artifacts?

Not really, Rb. It's just that this area is a good 15-20 miles
out of our normal "zone" for this type of crystals. I had
checked it for artifacts in the past, but didn't find any
crystals there until I brought Scott, the CrystalHound. Grin

As promised, although a little late.  Here they are after being cleaned with acid.  There is a lot of etching combined with very thin surface coatings of some white mineral, perhaps more quartz.  The quality of the crystals look reduced because they are not wet like they were in the previous picture.

Not a lesser quality. A different quality. Can the white coating be magnesium?
