Yates brooks farm in Cleveland county

Dose anyone know if the Yates Brooks farm is open for digging? I know alot of people dig in the piles there.The last time i was there i got some really nice stuff from the vein..

Jim, No, I don't have any current information on this spot.
I have never been, but have some notes on the place
written down somewhere.
If it's in Cleveland County, we're interested! We've only been
talking about getting out there for the last two years or so.
Maybe 2011 will be the one.

Joe this is an interesting site.  Have not been there for years.  I did have a strange experience the last time I was there years ago.  Had just been introduced to the owner.  We shook hands and within seconds he colapsed and died from a heart attack.  We had EMT's in our group and he was just gone.

I'm very interested in hunting Cleveland County. This site
would be a good place to start, but I don't know if going
through the tailings would be that productive, and I have
no idea if you are allowed to break new ground or from what
type of mining operation the tailings came from.
The muscovite clusters with rutile would be worth digging for.
MAGMA hasn't been there since January 2004 and here's
a link to their last visit,

Everytime i've dug there i dig in the vein..There is not much tail dirt on it..Just where people have dug on the sides of the pit (that is not that big)..

If you make it to the L. Yates Brooks farm be on the look out for this combination.  It is is one of the only places known in NC for anatase crystals on muscovite.

Close-up of the above specimen.


I've seen nice quartz crystals from there, too.  The muscovite crystal aggregations are world class!

The site has been closed to collecting for a few years, due to someone digging a big hole that a cow fell in and died.
