Thanks guys, yea i thought it was just another point on chunky quartz when i plucked it outta the ground and was pleasantly surprised when i got home to clean it off.

Scott, I found this over at the cemetery in that rich area towards the front of the development. Unfortunately it looked like they were pouring foundations right there this week.

These are from our first creek trip (Mine Creek, Raleigh)!

Sorry for the bad photography.  The one on the left seems to have smaller minerals in it...maybe garnets?  The quartz crystal on the right was the largest we've found (so far).

Yes, similar rocks found in Mine Creek near lounge member L82play seem to have garnets in the pock marks.  Keep looking, because a lot of neat stuff has been found in that creek.

Over the last few months I have done some creek crawling in different parts of House Creek. Here is a picture of 3 examples. I found these on the same day within a 100 foot section of the creek. Needless to say I really excited.  Grin
Top and bottom shots are before and after cleanup.

Nice finds, Neal! Thanks for the pictures.
The middle one looks like some real high grade material.
What a gem of a resource that House Creek is. Always a good place to walk. Smiley

Thanks Joe. Since my microscope bit the dust I have struggled to take the pictures that show the beauty of what I find. The bottom crystal has a perfect hexagonal piece of what looks like mica embedded in the lower right third. I tried and tried to get a shot of it but the lenses I have don't do that job. Makes me think about how amazing an eye is.

Here's some nice very light purple amethyst druzy found this weekend. Thanks to Josh, (board member jgards86) for sharing the pocket I have these lovely specimens from Wake Forest extracted this past weekend.

Surface mineral patterns on these crystals are very interesting and unusual.
