Perpendicularly Twinned Rubies

It's not something i dug but i did find it in a bucket...
This is two rubies growing perpendicular to each other, on one of the faces a near perfect triangle is present and the other face a much less defined one.  I am not convinced a third ruby didnt join the show but it is hard to tell; it could be ruby  1's crystal structure was altered by ruby's 2 pressure and made for an odd ruby.

Wow! So would that be considered a ruby cluster? That would be rare, it seems.

My experience is minimum, someone else maybe able to chime in?  I thought it was pretty cool looking and wanted to share it.

Yeah, thanks for sharing! That does look like a nice find
even if it did come from a bucket.
Maybe one of the corundum collectors will have some input.

RR,

I think any specimen that has more than one crystal could be called a cluster.  I have seen several NC corundum specimens that are clusters.  I have posted one below of a yellow sapphire cluster from the old Whitewater Mine (now closed), Jackson/Transylvania Co. line.

What mine did you get this one from?  Could you post a sharper photo so details can be seen?  Thanks.

Dennis

It was from spruce pine "gem mine" i believe it is non-native though, maybe from Madagascar from looking online. I will try to get a clearer shot of it, i had to use my cellphone, it has better quality than my actual camera   Embarrassed

Thanks for all the input guys

Edit: Nice cluster of sapphires dennis.

Your stone is from India.  They are typically called "record keepers" due to the upraised or inset triangle.  They are very common and quite cheap.  I have bought and sold quite a few of them and even have one here that a guy gave me at a dig 3 weeks ago in S.C.  The rubies can get real big from there with such nice hex shape.
Google "record keeper" .."india"..."ruby"
