A big auction is being held in South Carolina of some of the biggest and best Diamond Hill Mine has produced. Six specimens are being auctioned off with no minimum bid. DIAMOND HILL “Specimen Auction” and Show


Where? The Belton Depot, in downtown Belton, South Carolina.

When? Saturday, June 16, 2012

General Information:

In 2007 & 2008, many large and spectacular specimens were found at the Diamond Hill Quartz Prospect (near Antreville, South Carolina) during our mechanized digs. The diggers decided to hold back seven of these top specimens, with the hope that they could be placed in museums, or other institutions, where they could be seen and enjoyed by the public. One of these seven specimens was acquired by the South Carolina State Museum and is now there on permanent display. The remaining six specimens will be available at this auction.

This event will include both the auction and a sale:

The Belton Depot will be open to the public from 10 am - 5 pm. Visitors will be able to see and purchase crystals, mineral specimens, fossils, and gemstones/jewelry, with a special emphasis on finds from Southeastern USA. If you would like to be a vendor, contact Gina (see below).

The six remaining notable Diamond Hill specimens will be auctioned, beginning at 2 pm.

Where can you see the specimens to be auctioned?

These web pages (assembled by Rick Jacquot and Chet Karwoski) show several photos of each specimen, as well as descriptions, dimensions, damage assessments, etc. Within these web pages, keep clicking on links and photos to get more info. The specimens will also be on display at the Belton Depot, beginning the morning of June 16.

Note: On those same web pages, a monetary value is suggested for each specimen. We are hoping the specimens will sell, at auction, for values approaching these. However, there is no minimum bid, and the highest bids will be accepted, regardless of how low they might be. All six specimens must sell!

Rules for Auction Participants

If you’d like to participate in the auction, you need to register. Prior to June 16, you can register with Gina Clary (contact info below). On the day of the auction, you can register with Gina at the Belton Depot.

Individuals offering the highest bids need to pay at the auction. Cash is preferred, but we expect to accept credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover). If you want to pay with a check, you must pre-approve this with us before the day of the auction.

If you win one of these specimens at auction, you must remove it from the Depot by 5:30 pm on June 16. Some of these six specimens are small, and there will be no problem boxing them up and placing them in your vehicle. However, some of these specimens are large (up to 4 ft) and heavy (over 500 Lb). If you want to bid on one of these “big boys”, be sure you have an appropriate vehicle to carry it. It is possible (but not guaranteed! ) that folks at the event might help you carry a heavy specimen into your vehicle.
