I've recently upgraded my camera so I'm going to practice here by re-taking pictures of specimens that have been posted in the past.

First up is:

Chatham County
Rock Crystal Quartz with a Hematite and Chlorite phantom.
5 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm

Also,

Calcite and Barite on chlorite and quartz.
Lee County, Moncure, NC
3 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm

A fine mat of druzy quartz (not visible) covered by chlorite serves as the base of this specimen.

I knew that. Roll Eyes Great looking crystal!
Great pics, Scott! It will be interesting to see what the "upgrade" is.
I went out acouple days ago and "upgraded" to a new
Nikon Coolpix L620 point'n'shoot.
I haven't used it yet but I'm not sure I like the zoom and auto-focus on it? We'll see.
I wanted to go the DSLR route but chickened out, for now.

An experiment with blue and green light on:

Garnet, Wake Co., Raleigh, NC.
5 x 5 x 4 cm  (~2 inches in diameter)

This site is very special to me personally as it was my first big independent discovery.  I was going off the advice I heard from an Earth Science teacher I student taught for while getting my teaching certificate in college.  He said I should be checking construction sites if I wanted to find crystals.

I took his advice when I saw this massive area right on the border of Wake Forest and Raleigh being developed.  A massive pegmatite vein spanned a small section of this site.  In it were massive books of mica along with garnets.

This garnet was the largest one I discovered, and only days before the site was sealed under a parking lot.
