There is a gentleman that is selling a old craftsman lapidary kit with saw. He got it on trade and wants 100.00 bucks for it. He says it needs some tlc. The website is vs-gold.com under for sale.

Ok got a picture of it. Would it be a good item to start and learn with or not worth the time. Info from seasoned veterans in this field would help.

I'm not the best person to ask, but it looks like a steal to me.

As a beginner, but one who recently completed a similar search, my opinion is if the motor works - that and a working saw blade and just one sanding wheel with grit would be worth $100.  Looks like a fair deal to get started.

cheers,

I agree, looks like $100 is a really fair price. Smiley
Specially, as mentioned, if the motor still works and the saw is usable.
The bar with movable "rest" or vise infront of the wheels is something I have never used before
but it looks like it could be a huge aid and a real nuisance at the same time.
I wonder if it can be taken off and on? But I'm sure either way works well.
This machine is going to need some TLC, specially if the saw works, it's worth the time and expense.
The main problem is you are going to have some decisions to make about
purchasing new blades, wheels, belts, etc.
But that's everything you need to get started right there.
If you have room for it and can work on it I'd get it!
Thanks for the pic. Smiley

It's a steal. Comes with a roll of electricians tape to help start the rehab journey!  If my big old van wasn't in need of a brake line I might have raced you to it.  (Not really -- don't have the time to finish fixing my old gear!)
