Rebecca and I beachcombed Fort Boykin on Burwell Bay near Smithfield, VA. We found fragments of fossil shells and fossil conglomerate replaced by hematite, I think. Some had botroidal layering.

The MAGMA fossil hunt in November is one county upriver from where we collected these.

About 15 years ago we happened to find abundant fossil coral and a variety of complete fossil shells at a location downriver but still on Burwell Bay.  Here are some of the fossil coral pieces that Rebecca found.  I think I put most of those I found into concrete stepping stones.  I know, sacrilege.  At the time I thought I could go back anytime and get more.  Wasn't thinking about how the tides and storms give and take away equally.
