Worth continuing working this area?

Found an area with a bunch of Quartz crystals. Oddly small as can be seen in the pics. Some very clear, some solid white, one seems to have a red clay inside. I also found Boulder about the size of a basketball with crystals inside. Found these around the bas of two old oaks downed in a storm. About ten yards apart. My question is do you find larger crystals in the same area as small ones? Should I start digging between the two trees? And the. The Boulder, brought it home should I try and crack to see what the inside holds. I am new to this and love collecting.

Thanks for the pics, Goldrunner.
Even though I'm not sure what the scale is of all those pics
it looks like you've got a hot little spot there and I would definitely
go to the trouble of digging deeper if you can.
Before busting into that one rock you might want to clean it
up and see what it looks like. I would guess most of the crystals in
that clump are grown into and contacted with one another and
won't look as good as the ones that had a space or "vug" to grow in.
That one long slender clear crystal doesn't really fit in with the rest,
so now you have to dig to figure out where it came from. Smiley
Good luck and keep us posted. Wink

I am going to try and get going in the area a little more. Trying to find the vein itself under the tree. The long one is definelty different than the others. A little worried the area may become a construction zone before to long. Could not figure out how to downsize the pictures. Technology irritates me to no end.

Continued digging this week. No more individual crystals....did find some more softball size crystallized throughout. Dirt seems like a few inches of black topsoil the a little clay and into a yellowish tan dirt for about 6-8 inches and the. More clay. Quartz rock seems in the yellowish dirt. A little stumped as to what to do next. Plan on diggin a little more this week widening out the hole to see if I can find anything else. I hate lacking experience and flying blind.

If I found all that quartz, with crystal points and all, I would definitely continue looking around in that area.

Most of us rockhounds are "flying blind" all the time.  But when you have a spot where crystals are coming out of the ground like your spot, you just keep digging.  All the clues are there, and the crystals are coming out.  At this point, your success depends on how much effort you put into digging.  Pay close attention to the color of the dirt and clay.  If you see that the crystals seem to be covered in a particular color of clay or dirt than follow any zones where that color dirt exists.  The clay that is found coating or surrounding the crystals is called pocket clay and that is what you should be following.  Good luck!

Couple more digs with tennis ball size crystallized rocks. Drove by today and ......dozers in place. Rootball of the tree I started at is gone. Hoping to get in on Sunday and see if I can get lucky to find anything. Did not look good, but maybe they help uncoverd more for me.

Nice finds, definitely keep digging.  How about putting a dime or quarter in your next pics so we have an idea as to scale.  Keep up the good work!
