I've seen specimens in neighboring counties posted and set out on a quest to find some in Richmond County also here are a few photos after a week into this journey. Any advice and classifications welcomed. Cheesy

You have quartz in all three photos.  The first picture, however, is interesting because it was previously included with something like mica or calcite that has since been weathered away -- so you're left with the crazy looking impressions of the former mineral.  Just regular quartz in the second photo, and the third has a limonite or iron concretion or layer stuck to the quartz.  Keep looking, you're finding some interesting things.

Antonio,

I live in Richmond County and have posted some minerals that I've found over the years here under "North Carolina" localities. Come fall this year, I plan to go out and really explore some very promising localities. The quartz that you've pictured is very abundant in certain localities of northern Richmond County off Highway 73 west of Ellerbe. There are actually several veins right along the road there where I've found small vugs with clear crystals in them, one only 1 mile out of Ellerbe. If you live in Richmond County and would like to go digging, PM me. I've found corundum, epidote, schrol, smoky quartz, and a variety of things here in the past which makes me want to further explore the area. Living so close to Montgomery County and other mineral rich counties, I have to often overlooked my own back door. Anyway, I'm glad to see that someone else is taking interest in Richmond County as well.
