Lots of rain = good hunting.  And this weekend was no exception.  Josh and I decided to give a try at finding amethyst at a construction site we've found purple at before.  A retention pond near the back of the construction site yielded promising veins and scattered surface finds of small purple crystals last time we were there.  So we started there and were able to get right into a crystallizing vein.  It yielded lots of crystallized smoky amethyst quartz, unfortunately not many whole or single crystals.  But the pretty crystallized faces throughout the vein kept us busy for at least a couple hours.  Joe and Collin joined us later where all four of us dug on a particularly large vein of amethyst that Joe spotted.  Thanks again for inviting us over and sharing the vein Joe!  His vein was very similar to our first one where there were many crystallized faces but terminations were rare.  The pictures seem to make it look more smoky than amethyst, but purple was there just very subtle.  Nevertheless, we can't complain when finding amethyst no matter what shape its in.
