Welcome to the Board, Watkins! Look forward to seeing some of your finds! Smiley
You know there's alot to rockhounding besides just going out and looking for rocks,
although just going out and looking for rocks is the most enjoyable part of it,
there is a certain amount of reading and research involved.
Because of where you live I think you would get a lot out of reading,
"The Map That Changed the World", by Simon Winchester.
I think you would enjoy it if you haven't read it already.

Best of Luck to You,
Joe

Welcome Watkins.  One of the quickest ways to get networked with rockhounds and to start learning about locations to hunt nearest you is to join a gem and mineral club if possible. The people in a rock club will know all the spots and many times plan field trips to locations. Otherwise there's much to explore by yourself.  Simply going out and picking up rocks any where you can will teach you a lot. If you have any questions be sure to ask, we have a lot of knowledgeable people here who would be glad to help out.
