The Irony of a Broken Heart(stone)

Going through my buckets of unsorted stones, I came across this layered green and black nephrite jade stone, that's almost shaped like a broken heart. Most of the stones I collect are from the beach and already waterworn, so it doesn't take too long in the tumbler to get a semi decent shine. Most people think a broken heart is a bad thing, but I am really infatuated with this one. The layering is what intrigues me the most about the stone. Even though it's not as valuable as jadeite, I still feel this one is a prize to any collection.

On a similar note, I have other pieces of jade, has anyone on the forum tried carving it before? If so, any tips or recommendations?

Thanks,
Beach Comber

Agreed! A prize find for sure!
Call it what you will the layering is what makes it. Especially unusual for jade.
I've got a nice pile of jade that I've been meaning to start carving for the last decade or two. Don't hold your breath. Tongue
I gotta tell you tho, when you see a cab, out of any material, for $10.00 and a crouching cat carved from the same material right next to it for $11.00 there isn't a whole lot of material motivation for doing it. Pretty much has to be a labor of love.
Nature carved broken hearts are in a category by themselves. Wink
Nice find. Thanks for the picture! Smiley

Yeah I have a huge amount of stones with layers and lines that are absolutely beautiful. That might be my next post. Here is one stone that has a perfect quartz line separating the sparkling specularite.
