Green what?

Believe it or not, I dug this up in some woods in buncombe county.  I started digging a little bit under a Hickory tree and it popped up.  My guess is that someone lost it or maybe a squirrel stole it and buried it.
What are your thoughts on what it is?  Looks polished already!

Cool find, Good eye!
Yes, it is certainly polished! Now the question is was it polished naturally or by man? I'm thinking if someone went to all the trouble of polishing that cobble, it would be 'shaped' more to their liking. I mean it wouldn't roll right if used as a marble and it would make a 'clumpy' pendant, so my guess is it's totally naturally polished. Untouched by human hands until yours found it! Smiley

And it looks to me like a small bit of Brecciated Rock.

That is an unusual amount of polish for something that has been naturally polished by water, so I do understand the confusion.  If you are able to go to the same location you found this and dig around I would assume you would find more rounded rocks indicating the presence of abrasion by water. Is there a creek nearby?

Thank you all for the responses, they help!

Yes, there's a creek nearby.  In fact, it was right down the embankment where I dug up this shiny piece.
