Phantoms & such

I recently made an inexpensive (but worth more) purchase from the local museum. They were calling it a small quartz cluster. Main crystal stands at 2.5" tall x 1 3/8" at it's widest but only 7/8" thick. What caught my eye & prompted me to buy it for the $6.00 it was labeled at was the second crystal partially embedded in the first. After getting it home I found that both have green phantoms as do the smaller crystals at the base. At least the ones I can see into do at any rate. Most are covered with a white chlorite or similar. I'll get some closeup pics of them later on. But for now, here are the pics I just took. Not the best, but far from the worst (I hope). First 2 in front of a black background which shows the crystal great, but not the phantom at that well. Others are in front of a tan background making the phantoms show better. First 2 also show the base crystals some. Last 3 pics show some of the phantom in the 2nd crystal.

Nice little $6 find there, Dave. Thanks for the pictures!
I believe they call that a "Penetrating Twin" when one crystal grows into the main one like that? Can see the chlorite coated phantoms no problem.  But you have left out the most important tidbit of information; Where is it from? I'm guessing someplace there in Washington state, but inquiring minds want to know!  Smiley

No idea where it's from honestly. The display didn't say, but it could very well be from here. They have quite a bit of petrified wood from around here, so maybe, but since I also bought an amethyst cluster from Brazil from them a few years ago, I can't be sure.
