Girard GA fossils

Found these very recently, trying to get as much collecting as possible before my right arm goes under the knife. (Boo!) The rock with the hole is a snail shell that goes all the way through from one side to the other. One is not a fossil, it's just very colorful. I can't wait to cut it open and see the inside.

Nice find Rob. I'm no expert on minerals at all but it almost look like the stone those specimens are found in might have a bit of opal in it. I really like the colors in that last photo. Would like to wish you the best of luck with your surgery so get well soon and get back to finding more amazing specimens.

I'll second that, Rob, wish the best on whatever operation you have coming up on your arm, and a speedy recovery!
This new spot you're working is looking very nice. Great fossils and a much more agate looking material than chert. Like that colorful last piece! Smiley

Nice finds and good luck with your surgery. Found this info a long time ago on the internet but can't remember where.

"What are the micro minerals found in Savannah River Agate?
Within the vugs of the agate/chert rock, you can discover a variety of micro minerals. These include Druzy Quartz, Gypsum, Hyalite Opal, Goethite, Limonite, Hematite, Green Wavellite, Strengite, Varascite, Cacoxenite, Kidwellite, Churchite, Rockbridgeite, Dufrenite, and Jarosite. Each of these minerals has its own unique properties and characteristics, making them a fascinating subject of study for geologists and mineral enthusiasts."

"What fossils can be found in Savannah River Agate?
In addition to the micro minerals, the Savannah River Agate also contains a variety of fossils. These fossils provide a window into the past, allowing us to learn about the creatures that inhabited the ancient coral reefs. Some of the fossils that can be found in Savannah River Agate include Gastropods, Echinoids, Nummulites, Elems, Bryozoans, Barnacles, Diatoms, and Tortilla. These fossils offer valuable insights into the biodiversity and ecological history of the Oligocene era."

Thank you very much, Rick, that's the list we've been looking for!
I think we have already identified several on the list.

Awesome fossils Rob. It always amazes me something that was alive so long ago that it has become part of a rock!
