Most say this is red Jasper but the flecks ?

Found a number of these in the Minnesota river valley. Hardness of 7-8. The flecks are making me question if this is Jasper? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

One more. I need to learn how to do multiple photos in one post.

Looking at your first picture, the inclusions might be fossils. The finger nail shapes are usually formed by bivalve shells.

Yes, interesting question. Is this a sedimentary formation like a fine grained sandstone with little clasts? Or is it a porphyritic igneous rock like the piece of Rhyolite in this link.

The clasts would be more rounded in the sandstone and sharper and more angular in the igneous rock.

porphyritic igneous for sure. Very similar to the photo you dropped in. I’m guessing on the hardness scale it would be a 7-8. It does polish nicely.
