I'm not up on my Horse Lingo, but here's Justin Burgin
keeping the curious Daddy Horse away from the Mommy Horse
and the new little Horsie.
We're all waiting to see it stand up.

Yes, it was a good way to start the day down on the farm.
We didn't find out if "it" was a filly or colt, but either way it
was pretty cool.

And it was a good omen for some of the diggers that showed up.
Scott found the biggest pocket with the biggest whole
crystals I've seen from the Burgin yet. But I'd say the pocket
that Amber got into had the prettiest crystal clear crystals
of the day! Beautiful 4 inch double and single terminated ones!
I hope to see some of them cleaned up sometime.
I dug a really big hole that didn't have much in it.

Here's a pic of Scott holding onto an edge of his pocket.
He's saying, "MINE!"
And a pic of Amber cleaning out the end of her pocket with
Sean frantically searching for anything in the background. Wink

Always a fun day at the Burgin Mine!  Smiley

Here I created a video to display some of my finds before and after cleaning.

Well, the Burgin ain't so Virgin anymore. Wink

Seeing as how Scott and I couldn't get up to the mountains
for all the rockhounding and rock shows this week, we decided we owed
it to ourselves to get down to the Burgin for a little digging
today. We brought newbie rockpup Ryan from PA with us.
Just kidding about Ryan being a "rockpup". He has done quite
a bit of rockhounding up in PA where he's from and is only a
newbie when it comes to NC. This was his maiden voyage to
the Burgin, or to any crystal hunting site in NC for that
matter. We are looking forward to him learning how to resize
his pictures so he can start posting some of his PA
specimens on the board here for all of us to enjoy.

So it was already pretty hot by 9:30 when we were ready
to begin digging. We had a look at where we left off the
last time we were there, and then got started.

A couple hours later and we're down to good virgin terrain.
I had cleaned out a trough thru the quartz knob and was
seeing the beginnings of what looked like a pocket on the left
bottom side.

After walking around and giving the place the once over
Ryan comes over to join us and takes a spot at the other
end of the mud seam we have been following for months.

So there's nothing left but to start taking the pocket apart.
I can see it is a mass of broken shards, but that's typical of
the Burgin, and I'm hoping the nicely healed shards will clean
up to reveal some neat pieces.

In the meantime Scott comes over and starts digging on the
other side of the trough from me, and finds a nice vug in
the wall of the bull quartz. I think he decided to name this the
"Up and Coming" vug. Smiley
And he may have a video of pulling this one out.

The pocket I was working must've been some large crystals
at one time, but now it was just full of large healed shards.
I'll post some pics when they get cleaned up.

The thunder started rolling in.
Time to wrap it up.
The end of another fun day at Burgin. Smiley

Hate i missed a trip to the Burgin but a few people were talking at round up about getting a dig there in two weeks and do an overnight stay so we can move some serious rock.  I will post my round up stuff eventfully, got skunked pretty hard most days at the ray but i found one 11.3 carat of CLEAR light blue aqua that i have been told would make a nice little stone.
