I have been rock hounding for about 50 years - in New Jersey (prehnite, carnelian, pyrite, fluorescent minerals at Franklin) , New York (garnet and Herks)  North Carolina(ruby, sapphire, garnet, peridot, emerald, aqua, uraninite, green opal, golden beryl, fossils and amber), South Carolina (aqua), Montana(garnets, sapphires, quartz crystals and amethyst, fossils, moss agate, fortification agate), Wyoming (jade), Arizona (quartz, geodes, petrified wood), Colorado(topaz, aquamarine, fossil insects), Nevada (opalized wood), California (tourmaline, obsidian), Oregon (agate, sunstone), Idaho (opal), Washington(agate),New Hampshire (beryl), Virgina(beryl, tourmaline, fairy crosses), Connecticut (garnet, danburite), Maine(tourmaline, lithium mica, beryl),  Georgia (rose qz, beryl), Michigan and Minnesota (agate), South Dakota (agate) and a lot of states that my folks didn't write down when I was little. I know we found celestite, but I don't remember where - and amazonite as well.  Don't think I have ever met such nice folk in my life, and had as much fun while exercising.  I like to say on my vacations I make little rocks out of big ones Smiley.

Well, the title of "oldrockhound" is pretty generic.
There are quite a few rockhounds on here that are old.  Wink

But probably not many that have been around as much as you!
Sounds like you've covered the states pretty darn well.
Welcome to the board. We'd love to see some pics!

Welcome! Man! That is a list! I think mine would make a very short sentence.
Pictures would be great!

Well, maybe I can get some pics - I'll have to wait till I am back home.  I have books for most states as to where to find what.   Looked for diamonds in AK, but didn't find any - did find some nice quartz there though.  Some Peridot in the Kilborne Hole, and thundereggs at Rock Hound State park - some fireagate in a cow field, and some copper ore outside a mine...  Some places are just better than others though.  I REALLY like looking for opal in Spencer, ID, sunstone near Plush, Oregon, tourmaline in the Himalaya mine in Ca and sapphires in Philipsburg, MT.   I would recommend any of those to anyone.  (Looked for sapphires in Philipsburg on my honeymoon.)

Well you've certainly had your share of rockhounding with all those references.  I'll bet your collection is pretty extensive.  Welcome to RHL and show us what you got when you get back home.   Wink
