It was Sunday, Labor Day Weekend, 2012.
Scott, Ryan and I had been driving around Wake County all
day checking out some of the new little developments that
have been springing up lately around the Triangle. Basically,
it amounted to a good chance to show Ryan around, not
that there was much to look at.
"Right here under these nice new townhomes we found some
really nice crystals!", and that sort of thing.
Anyway, after dropping Ryan off, Scott and I decided to hit
one more new spot on the way home. We didn't find anything
at that site, either, but that put us driving back into town
on Hwy 98. So we got to thinking, since we had struck out
all day, there wouldn't be any harm swinging by BG and
taking a look see. They had recently opened up a couple of
the last few remaining lots to be opened. They had already
started building a house on one of the lots, but the other
one was still scraped and barren of construction.
It was easy to find an exposed vein of the green altered
granite of Bowling "Green" that the crystallized veins of
quartz are running through. So we started to dig.
In no time we were seeing little pockets and seams of
crystallizing quartz. This was not a surprise for this site.
The deeper we went, the better it was looking.........
so we decided to dig some more.
Here's a few shots of Scott in the our hole as it was about
an hour into digging.
