Just thought I would share a report put together by a member of the FMF - Friends of Minerals Forum -- a site I frequently visit for pictures and more discussions about rocks.  The report has some stunning pictures that I thought just needed to be shared.

Wow! Beautiful floater! That quartz is shiney hot!!!!
Their experience with the presumably awesome cluster is one of the main reasons I like floaters, clusters often disappoint. Also, they are easier to store and keep. Floaters are just special anyway.
Love the landscape and to see people far removed from me doing the same thing! It is so weird what these rocks do to us!
Thanks for sharing.

I know I'm reviving a long dead post but, hey I have relevance. I collected quartz in SA during my field camp in 2012!

Ive since moved to a newer computer but if I get back to MS ill have to pick up a few of my pieces I collected and hopefully can dredge up some pictures. SA really had beautiful pieces, but for my mapping project of the Table Mountains/Cape Town area I found more fossils than minerals.

Should have called me, I thought Id spend a while at garnet hill, turns out my bucket was overflowing in just an hour and I was done for the day! What are the conditions to visit rougemont, I.E. do i need to be with a group and have something official or do you just poke around the edge or dump sites?

It was a tar heel gem and mineral club trip,  as far as I am aware they only allow clubs to poke around the tailing piles.

Cool report, some of those especially the one with chlorite inclusions look very similar to Cooper Ridge  Smiley
