Iron out should be safe on corundum.  I do stay away from the stronger acids.  I also watch out for the fumes that you can get even with the iron out.

Thank you Dan..I will try one of the less nice ones that I have to see how it comes out..I keep all my stuff outside when soaking and very seldom use the acid after being burned by it few weeks back.

There's probably nothing more you can do to them.  You can't turn a non-gemmy piece of massive corundum into a gem no matter what you do.

I just want them cleaned up is all...I do not sell what I collect nor make anything out of them...Just for my personal hoarding only.

Yeah I'm pretty confident that the grey color is the true color of the rock after all stains have been removed by the Iron Out especially if the rock is corundum or quartz.  Iron Out would never change the color of corundum or quartz by itself.  If you left the specimens in the solution so long that the iron dissolved into the solution re-precipitated on your specimens then you would be left with an ugly brown stain that is very difficult to remove, but it's not grey.

Guess I will leave the corundum like it is..some are blue..red..pink..chocolate but I thought i could make it a bit brighter by soaking them...Thank you

I would hate to ruin them as it was my first actual dig at a site so I guess I will just give them another good soaking in hot soapy water.

Rocknerd, I just soaked 3 pieces of corundum for about 36 hours, they look good today.  I'm not sure what is going on with your ironout situation. I soaked some very stained quartz with them and they are half way to being clean with no gray whatsoever.

The ones I soaked were I assume quartz rocks but I am being to question them since when I put them in they were white with some tinge and came out grey..I may have used too much and maybe a tad bit too hot water...I have some quartz and agate rocks soaking now in less iron out and more water and they seem to be doing good so far.

Rocknerd, with Ironout I may use warm tap water, but mostly I use cold water.  It takes more time to get the results I want but I have more control over the finished product.
