It's "bearded tooth" fungus.  Hericium erinaceus.

It’s not a Morel, that’s truer than truth.
To call it a mushroom would just be uncouther than couth.
No name fits it better than “old Bearded Tooth".

The bearded tooth is also quite a delicacy if you pick it before it gets too old.  Mild delicious taste.  They're endangered in Europe, but it's OK to eat them here.

Hmmmm, might have to try it sometime.  I'm reading it tastes like lobster (not chicken!).  I'm planning to work on my fungi's this year so thanks for the start, gramps.
