Fracking and Earthquakes.

So I was reading the paper this morning and it seems folks
out in Texas and Oklahoma are wondering if the fracking industry
has anything to do with all the earthquakes their respective states are suddenly experiencing?
Hummm.......?
I mean you don't think pumping 281,000 gallons, ie; 94 tanker truckloads,
of "wastewater"(?) PER DAY into the ground at just one well site
would have any effect on the ground would you?

Oklahoma experienced "two" 3.0 magnitude quakes from 1978 to 2008.
The state experienced 145 quakes of 3.0 magnitude or greater in just the first 4 months of this year.

North Texas has had 70 earthquakes since 2008 compared to a single, (1), in 1950, reported in the region before 2008.

Teams of researchers are researching whether there is any correlation
between fracking and the sudden increase in seismic activity. Cheesy

It's a good thing we are getting some gas out of the deal
otherwise all these companies would be getting rid of all their
" too-toxic-to-tell-you-what-it-is" waste for nothing.

I'm sure glad our state reps are smart enough to realize
we don't need NO Fracking in NC!!! Tongue

Joe

It is just hard to imagine that after all the stink up in PA and out in Texas and Ok. that this state would go ahead and push for fracking.  We are going to pollute our groundwater that a lot of rural NC depends on.  What we really should do is push for fracking in the backyards of the polls that pushed for this mess.

Agreed, Dan! Fracking in NC is idiotic.
The oil and gas companies are so sure that fracking in NC would be unprofitable
that NC is now the first state in history to pay for the exploratory drilling for them.
We're paying for it!

We really need to walk slowly on this and take a wait and see attitude until we know more, may be too late for those folks in other states, if there is a connection.  NC even had the gall to make it illegal to tell the public what chemicals they're putting in the ground.

Let a gold prospector drop a dredge in the water and the officials are all over them.  Follow the money.
