Hello my name is Rick, I'm new to this site, but not new to rock hunting. This is one of my latest finds.

Hi Rick!  Welcome to RHL.  Looks like an great find there.  Could you give us some background on this find, and what all minerals you have there?

Looks like the Canadian material from Bear Lake region with pink calcite, maybe apatite, and either schorl tourmaline or fluororichterite.  Pretty stuff.

Hi, My wife and I are from the Ottawa valley in Ontario, Canada. The core of the rock is Amethyst, the green nib i think is Epidote, and bulk of the rest is Peach Aventurine and shattered quartz or crystal sandstone. We found this on a road side cliff,......a very nice rusty looking rock face.

I think someone has steered you wrong on those identifications.  For one thing, adventuring is a form of quartz, and the peach stuff there is definitely not quartz, and is identical to countless specimens from that area of orange calcite.  The cleavage rhombs easily give it away as calcite.  The green is not epidote, I'm positive.  Again, countless specimens from your area have green apatite crystals in orange calcite that look exactly like that.  It's a pretty piece, regardless.  (I thought adventuring was green by definition.  If it were peach, wouldn't that be citrine?)

Thanks Laurie, but citrine is more of a yellow to golden colour turns orange in under heat, calcite is usually white and can be found in orange and some other colours, but is not a flakey material like the peach material in the pic, and you be correct with apatite, i was not sure what it was.......

I did a little research and found that adventurine is not necessarily, though usually, green and "peach" is one of the known colors.  But I am 100% positive that you have orange calcite, fluorapatite, and fluorite (not amethyst).  Your region is world famous for this material, it is very well known.

Hi Rock Hunter.  Welcome to RHL.

I agree with Laurie's identification of the minerals that make up your specimen.  The orange mineral is calcite, easily identified by the cleavage planes that are evident.

Aventurine is a type of quartz, usually green, that has minute flakes of mica that was trapped during formation.  It is the mica that gives Aventurine its sheen and sparkle.  It can be other colors besides green, but green is the most common.
