If you have any theories on how this stuff was formed let me know. I think we can start by saying that it is quartz that has replaced or agatized some previous mineral.  I'm curious what that mineral was if it even was a mineral.

The amethyst on this piece was a secondary growth on a cluster of large clear but broken crystals.

I had to use backlighting to show the details on this piece. It becomes too washed out in direct light. The thing to notice on this piece is the nice grouping of scepters sitting shoulder to shoulder and in a row.
