Earthen Paradise sold and closed!

Well bad news folks -- Earthen Paradise has been sold and is no longer.  Obviously we'll have to cancel this meetup.

Please take a look at their Facebook page to see the details: https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=earthen%20paradise%20inc.

Looks like the former owner has other "prospects" and will be trying to open another mine in the future, but for now we'll have to wait.

Sorry folks, such is the way of mines -- they are all a finite resources, existing on land that can change hands at anytime.  I'll try to figure out an alternate place and time for a RHL meet up.  Suggestions are welcome.

Yes, I did go.  It was a neat place to visit.  I had been wanting to check it out since first hearing about it a year-ish ago.  With so many rockhunting locations around here closed or no longer accessible, it's awesome to see someone buying land for the purpose of allowing rockhounds access.  (Thank you, Earthen Paradise!)

My 11-yr-old had a blast digging/sifting/collecting/splashing/exploring.  We all found plenty of kyanite (it would be hard NOT to find kyanite).

I didn't take many pictures, but I'll post a few in the field trip section.  Smiley

Anyone interested in setting up a day for people to meet up there in a month or so?

There is a gem and mineral club discount found on their website "*Must have at least 2 people reserved together to get this rate and it’s a flat rate of $20 for both whole and half days.  Proof of membership in any active gem or mineral club or society is required to qualify for this rate.".

That sounds like a good idea. I haven't been to the place yet so it would be a good opportunity. If we can settle on a date I put it up as a RHL rockhound meet-up.

I am free May 19th and beyond. Maybe it could be an open poll for a specified days? I would guess more people could go on weekends because of work. Maybe May 19th, 20th or the next weekend May 26th, 27th? I am fine with weekdays too but just want to accommodate more people.

Let's go ahead and set it up for Saturday May 26th.  I've already got plans for the 19th.  I'll make it an official RHL trip and make it a sticky.

Saturday May 26th. Put it on your calendar to come on out to Earthen Paradise to meetup with fellow Loungers. Bring rocks for trading, selling, or just show and tell. Tools needed -- Rock hammer, prybar, shovel, 5 gallon bucket, plenty of drinking water. Kyanite is what you'll be looking for. Hope to see you there!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyanite

Here is their website:  https://earthenparadiseinc.com/p/visit-us

It's $40 per person for a full day.  If you have two or more people who are members of a Gem and mineral club there is a discounted price of $20 per person.
