This one was double terminated with one end a "crowned" termination.

It's Friday. The weekend is almost here so it's time to get your "hunt" on!
Last Sunday I was going to head out into the countryside and neighboring counties but decided to take a quick look at the Cemetery before heading out of town. I knew Scott and Josh were both out of town so I thought there might be a chance of the blind old guy seeing something.
There wasn't much new to look at but there was this one big ol'vein about a foot thick that everyone has been pecking away at for the last couple weeks. There were areas of micro-faces and faces showing up on this vein but it looked like a lot of work to try and see if it was ever going to produce a pocket with crystals so no one had really tried. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to take a look. If this vein was like most of the others we've encountered at this site there might be one pocket of crystals all the way in the back at the very bottom of this vein just before it turns to nothing but clay.
And sure enough, after a couple hours of digging, there it was, right where it was supposed to be.

The exterior of the crystals have been through a lot and have a milky white oxidation on the surface making it hard to see the beautiful clear areas in the crystal. But there are a few small spots of red rutile.

I don't know if this piece ever achieved total terminated crystal status but it is some facet grade quartz with a nice big patch of splotches of the red rutile on it.

There were a few other nice little crystals found in there but here's just one more I like because of it's complex compact shape.
Y'all have a good weekend.

Joe, I saw the crater in the wall from where you dug this out!!! I may have pecked at that vein a few times. Nice finds! Here is one I found recently at the cemetery.

Mighty fine lookin' case you got there, jgards!
You know, it's true, that here in Wake County the streets are paved with gold.
Well, at least the clay under some of the streets is golden.
And for you diggers out there looking at this golden clay and thinking it looks pretty easy to dig in,
you're right. Cut it with a fork.

Well just holding the thing out there in the sun isn't the best way to get good pics
so this one will have to do. Nice Find!
