Oregon Find #1

My wife's folks (both passed away) spent a lot of time in central Oregon and on the high desert.  They came across this specimen maybe 20 years ago and have carted it around.  It is about 3 pounds and a little larger than my fist.  It is generally smooth.  I thought initially maybe Bull Quartz but now changing my mind.  We are down-sizing, so may be selling some of these to someone close by in Oregon with more room and greater passion.  Thoughts?

Looks like a “Conglomerate”. Kindof like a large grained sandstone. Looks like there may be some pebbles of chert and quartz in the mix. Some of this type rock is real pretty when slabbed. The cement holding everything together is key. I don't know if this is from a “known” site with a famous name in Oregon or not. I don't recognize it but it might be worth more if it is from a 'known' site. I'd take whatever I could get for it. Wink

Just to modify Joe's suggestion a little bit -- I'd say you have breccia as opposed to conglomerate.  The difference being that the clasts are angular as opposed to smooth and rounded as you will find in conglomerates. It appears as though the clasts are made of quartz mainly from looking at the picture. Hard to say what the matrix is unless I can see it up close, but it does look like sandstone. Pretty rock though.
