what is it and how did it

This is from Girard, and I brought it home because of this little ring embedded in the rock. Under the UV I can see little dots inside of the ring structure. If it were a plant I'd call the little spots vesicles. What is the ring made from, and how did it do this? I am so easily amused sometimes.

This looks like a fossil.  Specifically the cross section of a crinoid fossil.

Looks like a bowl of grits!
Don't know about 'display' but don't lose it. I'd like to see some pictures of other crinoids in that chert for comparison.
I know they've been recorded from your area but never seen one.
