I knew it had rained the day before the trip and I knew how messy and muddy that place gets.  I didn't bring my good camera because I didn't want to ruin it.  I did however take a very small video clip of the quartz vein I was working on with some fluorite on it.  I'll try to post it as soon as possible.

I've just got to post a few more pics of the Yellow Fluorite
before I file them away. This is the first time I have found
or seen any of it and I think it's pretty. Smiley

Very nice gemmy yellow fluorite.  The yellow I found was hardly worth a photograph.  I'm glad you were able to get some of the good yellow from there.

Yes, that's the first time I've actually seen any and
thought the color was pretty awesome, too.
The pics are too dark because I forgot to enhance them
in any way. So that's pretty much true color.

Here's a picture of one of the vugs found at the last MAGMA dig at Glendon by Bob Crocker.  This is the same sort of cavities I was getting into.

Okay, Instead of starting a new Glendon Field Trip thread,
I think I'll just keep this one going.
This mine, or quarry, is only open to collectors twice a year.
One day in the Spring and one day in the Fall.
This was the annual MAGMA Rock Club Fall Dig and is always
one of the most fun digs of the year for me. Friends from
Florida, Georgia, South Caroline, Tennesee, OHIO, Virginia,
and all parts inbetween come to slop and stagger through
this wonderful white Pyrophyllite mud in search of the
perfect cube mineral of their choice, Cheesy
and it's always good to see them.
I guess we could call this thread "Glendon Fluorite", because,
even though Glendon is known as a great place for collecting
Pyrite cubes, it seems we have only been collecting the
Fluorite lately, and that's pretty much what this thread has
been about. We may get to the Pyrite eventually,
but not this time. Wink

Back to the "Fluorite Hillside". Here's a couple of pics of
that hillside and those that made it their "choice" this time.

We are trying to expose the veins of milky white quartz
that run through the layers of Pyrophyllite in this part of
the quarry. The "ditches" everyone is digging are running
along the side of these veins of quartz.
This hillside hasn't been this exposed until recently and that
is why we've been concentrating on it lately. The quartz
veins are filled with all different sized vugs. Sometimes
you will only find the really "funky", (for lack of a better word),
quartz crystallization typical of this locale, as seen in this
next picture, and sometimes it will have some some
Fluorite in it. You might be able to see a piece hiding
in the second picture.

And just a few more pics.
Pic 1 is of the group and Scott taking a water break. Cool

Pic 2 shows some of the rest of the group with more of
the quarry in the background.

Pic 3, In the top right hand corner of this pic you can
barely see a white shed top and the blue and yellow
porta-potty. We have to walk just past that point to get
back to the truck!  Tongue  That's with the tools you walked
in with PLUS whatever rock you want to carry out.
It's about time to make that walk and you can see Scott
looking at a rock like he's trying to figure out just how
bad he wants it. Smiley

Pic 4, Rebecca and Marly getting packed up and ready for
the big walk out.

It's almost too much Fun!
And I hope to get around to adding some specimen pics soon.

Joe great report and pics.  The yellow fluorite is awesome for NC.  Looks like everyone was having a lot of fun.  Joined Magma this week, so one of these days I may show up at a dig. Cheesy

Pic is a Swiss Anatase just to change gears.

Hey. Who is that guy in the yellow shirt with the hat. I think he found a killer specimen of 2 cubes of yellow fluorite that were really big. I would love to see a picture of them. They were awesome.
