Wow! That is really beautiful. What is the actual size? I think I am only into floaters or thumbnail specimens anymore. I still haven't organized all the rocks I drug out to clean and take pics. Basically, I made a big mess and I have no where to store the bigger specimens, especially on heavy matrix. I will be bringing larger things to get rid of at the Holston dig.

I've spent a good many years collecting Montgomery County and have seen some pretty neat quartz come from there. There is an old mine off 134 north of Troy that use to produce the prettiest 1/2" crystal blades of ilmenite perched on quartz crystals in small pockets. You had to go out onto a rock ledge and dig them out of clay pockets. One wrong step and you'd fall 50' to the floor of the pit. We use to collect at the Tower Road mine which was way the heck back in the woods. It produced huge clear, light smoky, pale amethystine crystals many with chlorite, phantoms, and even a few with micro anatase! I traded Laurie a 6" smoky from there which is now owned by Kenny Gay. The mine owners hit a huge pocket that produced hundreds of xls to 300lbs. I've seen some of these myself. They were extracted in the 60's. The property is on National Forest and has been elusive to find in recent years. The dumps should still be there if I can relocate it. I've spent many years trying to find the infamous "Archie's Amethyst locality". I know Archie well. We use to collect together. I've always suspected one area and have searched it many times and actually, found amethyst but I don't think it is the same locality as his. Near Okeeweemee there use to be an occurrence of pseudo-brookite in vein quartz which occurred as thick elongated black fibers. Under a loupe, you could see fresh rutile. In two localities, golden rutile could be found in vuggy pockets where it appeared that feldspar once eroded away leaving cubic voids that had minor mica, saprolite, and rutile exposed. I'd advise anyone to explore this county as the potential is there for great quartz!

some of the best quartz crystal ever been found was at the base of the bridge they built around Grandfather mt, very large cluster was found there, I saw what was found and from the man who worked on the bridge he had many nice clusters. he was selling the specimens cheap back in those day. BW
