@ Jay: Yes, eleven hours is not a quick jaunt.  Maybe when you're swinging through this way we'll set it up.

Here's two more.  There was a lot of chlorite on many of the specimens I found.  It can be tedious work cleaning it all off.

Facet grade material?  Not much from what I found but yes there is potential.   Wink

Same to you, John! Smiley

I know I should leave the photography to the experts,
but here are a few pics I took trying to capture the zoning,
or phantoms(?), in some of these crystals from here.

These are parts of the amethyst veins I was finding.  It is easy to see from these pictures how and why most of the crystals I found were highly contacted and falling apart.

Looks like I missed some fun. I think there is potential there too. I want to go back! You did find some nice ones though, Scott.

On the back side of most if not all of the dark purple amethyst veins there was a weird gray texture.  What do you think the mineral was that is no longer there?  Wink

Great pictures of the Amethyst.  Love the cow pictures. Reminds me of our farm in Catawba Co.  But no Amethyst on the farm.  Just an outcrop of soap stone.  Keep hoping for a crystal to show up. Smiley

So what do you think the triangular negatives are from? Could it be from mica - maybe just corners of it. Or what about monazite?

You guys got into some better material than I did, but I would definitely go back. The specimens are definitely looking better and better.
